Can We Hear the Voice of God?

…Today, we have many believers who refuse to operate at the “listening and obeying” level with God. They would rather use their skill and power only to accomplish their call. This will not produce spiritual fruit for the Kingdom. Rather, it will only produce “Ishmaels,” which is attempting to accomplish something for God in our own strength, the one thing Jesus never did….Os Hillman

So true!

We at Creation Sciences Academy strive to teach our students to listen and journal what God is saying. Creation Sciences Academy is located in Woodland Park, Colorado and offers a home school/one room school-house approach to education. We are committed to spending time daily just listening to what Jesus is speaking to us. We include him in our everyday activities as well as in our devotions and bible class. We invite him into our schooling and rely on his help.

Our desire at Creation Sciences Academy in Woodland Park, CO is to raise up kids to be world changers. We teach them in a home school atmosphere with multiple grade levels. Not only are they learning to hear God’s voice, they are speaking into the lives of others as they ask him for encouraging words for their classmates and friends. Creation Sciences Academy in Woodland Park, Colorado encourages the students to participate in the conferences at Prayer Mountain, CO where they can practice what they are learning about hearing God’s voice. They are learning to listen and obey what he is saying.

Just yesterday the kids were challenged to ask God for a word of encouragement for another student. Each child received a word spoken over them as another student was listening for God to speak. One of our children needed help with math and just asked the Holy Spirit to help her solve a problem. She got the answer right even though the process she went through was not what was being taught in her text-book. Inventive?  Yes.

Creation Sciences Academy students and teachers seek God for wisdom and guidance and are trained to hear God speak to them. This home school atmosphere in Woodland Park, Colorado is like a greenhouse for school age kids to learn and grow in their relationship with God and others.

What do YOU think? Would love your feedback.

Christian Discipleship

The Great Commission! “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19. Recently, I have been pondering what Christian discipleship really means.

I think most believers have the Great Commission figured out; at least the first part of it. However, there is another verse that is part of the directive that often gets overlooked. As a result, people are left on their own to try and figure out what it means to be a Christian disciple.

Let’s look at the second part of the Great Commission; Matthew 28:20. “…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” What about life on life? What about obedience? What about the daily, nitty gritty decisions we all make? This is where Christian discipleship comes into play. It’s people getting involved in other people’s lives, spending time together in community and family, being accountable to another person. Yes, it can get messy, but that’s where the growth takes place.

It’s not enough to lead someone to Christ. We are responsible to train them to reproduce. So, we hang out with them, encourage them, answer and ask questions, challenge them and point them to the Father. We don’t want to leave them as newborn babies who grow fat on milk. Just like we desire to see our own children grow up and become responsible adults, true Christian discipleship raises up new believers to seek the Lord, be fed by him and give to others.

Discipleship at its Best!

A friend who has three children aged three, two and almost one, was telling me the other day of an offer she had from a younger lady. This young lady wanted to be mentored and asked Cindy if she needed a nanny. Cindy said she couldn’t afford to pay a nanny, but wondered what Rachel had in mind. Rachel said she didn’t have much training in mothering or homemaking as she was raised by her father. She just wanted to spend time with Cindy and learn from her.

One on One Mentoring

What an awesome picture of what discipleship is all about. So many times people ask ‘what is discipleship?’ and seem to be intimidated by the term. The pre-conceived idea of what they need to do and the responsibility of passing on to another person what they have learned and experienced seems to strike fear in people’s hearts. It really isn’t hard. But, it does take honest living and willingness to be real. Cindy is learning so much about mentoring a younger lady. Rachel is learning life skills as well as godly character that are being role modeled right before her eyes.

What is discipleship? Life on life. The ‘with me’ principle. Coming alongside another for their benefit.

When you have someone as eager as Rachel, someone who wants to learn and grow, there is such blessing. Cindy is blessed as Rachel seeks to help her and Rachel is blessed as she is observing Cindy, asking questions and learning how to grow into the woman she is destined to become.

So, discipleship isn’t a set of rules to follow, intense bible study, or a checklist to complete. It’s time spent with another passing on life lessons and showing by example how to live life in relationship with God and other believers.

Davy Crockett!

I remember when my older son was three. He became Davy Crockett. He had seen some old Fess Parker re-runs and was totally enthralled with the adventure. At three!!! So, he started dressing like Davy, had to find the right type of shirts (button down dress shirts, no more t-shirts for him), then found an old leather pouch of mine to ‘criss cross’ across his chest. We had a powder horn that he wore across his chest as well.

So, when I saw the coon skin cap (artificial) at the store, how could I not buy it for him? He called his little brother Georgie and seemed always to be in character. Having been a teacher and knowing the importance of enrichment for kids, my husband and I decided to delve into this interest with him. We found books about Davy Crockett, I made him spats and a fringed shirt, and we even bought him a toy rifle for his 4th birthday.

We went to Tennessee where Davy Crockett was born, went camping like Davy did and stayed in Frontierland at Disney World where we saw the bear Davy supposedly shot. My son decided he must not be the ‘real’ Davy Crockett because he didn’t remember killing a bear when he was only three as the song lyrics suggest. I learned so much during those three years that my son was Davy Crockett. We role played, looked at history and got creative. To this day, he is creative and imaginative.

What if each and every child had adults in their lives to enrich their interests and encourage their talents and gifts? Not every student likes every subject, nor do they excel at every subject. But, rather than focusing on strengthening where they are weak, wouldn’t it be great to have teachers take the time to find out where our children thrive and what really drives them and makes them tick; teachers who look to build up where the students are strong.

Let me tell you about a Christian Private school called Creation Sciences Academy. It’s located in Green Mountain Falls, CO and is one of a kind. In its uniqueness, the teachers and staff strive to identify areas of strength and gifting along with the children’s interests and then design enrichment activities to coincide with those interests. The children are encouraged to pursue their dreams. They believe each child is born with certain God-given traits, abilities and gifts that if nurtured and enriched will grow and develop in their lives. Whether it’s in music, art, history or aviation, students are encouraged to learn more and develop their interests. In so doing, the teachers and staff look for ways to weave subject matter and the child’s interest into the curriculum. They look for possible careers utilizing these interests, and work to prepare the children to be godly, purpose driven and entrepreneurial adults. WOW! What an awesome concept. What better way to motivate our children than to find what they like and build on their talents, abilities and interests!
